AERO is a portable cooling accessory that brings comfort to people while commuting. It’s hands-free design makes it more convenient and efficient than existing cooling solutions.
Urban areas tend to be warmer due to the replacement of natural land cover with buildings and other infrastructure that retain or produce heat. These buildings also restrict wind flow which leads to heat stress.
AERO works by targeting pulse points which are areas where blood vessels are close to the surface of your skin. Cooling these areas allows the body to lower temperature through evaporation of sweat. The neck is one of the most effective areas and is the most convenient for the purpose of cooling yourself.
Creating models was essential for a wearable product like AIRPIE to evaluate the ergonomics and user experience of using such a product. The size and shape was also also considered during this phase of the project.
A functional prototype was developed with all the electronic components such as batteries and motor fitted into a 3D printed housing.
